How we assess Marketing Candidates before you meet them

We assess how marketers think, communicate, and adapt in a modern marketing environment.

BrandHire uses a structured, role-specific approach to understand how candidates apply marketing knowledge in practice, not just what is written on their CV.

Why assessment matters

At graduate to Marketing Manager level, experience alone does not always provide the full picture. Job titles vary, responsibilities differ, and interview performance only shows part of how someone may perform in the role.

What matters is how someone approaches problems, thinks through channels and decisions, and explains their reasoning in practice. This is what we focus on before introducing any candidate.

Our approach

We ask a small number of practical questions aligned to the role a candidate is being considered for.

Not a test. Not a generic questionnaire. Not a one-size-fits-all process.

Each set of questions is designed around the type of work involved in the role.

For example:

  • A paid media role focuses on budget management, optimisation, and performance thinking.
  • A content role focuses on messaging, structure, and audience understanding.

This allows us to assess role relevance and practical understanding, not just general knowledge.

What we look for

We assess candidates across a set of core areas:

  • Clarity of thinking – how they break down problems and explain decisions.
  • Practical understanding – how well they understand channels, workflows, and execution.
  • Communication – how clearly they explain ideas, decisions, and performance insights.
  • Adaptability – how candidates use modern tools, including AI-assisted workflows, to improve efficiency.
  • Evidence of development – courses, projects, certifications, or hands-on experience.
  • Curiosity – the quality of questions they ask and how they think beyond the task itself.

The written summary

Every candidate we introduce comes with a written summary alongside their CV.

This includes:

  • Their key strengths.
  • Relevant experience and context.
  • How they approached our questions.
  • Why they are suited to the role.

This is not a generic reference.

It’s a structured assessment designed to give employers a clearer understanding before the first interview takes place.

Why candidate summary works

  • Employers gain insight into how a candidate thinks before the first interview.
  • Candidates are represented with more context than through a CV alone.
  • Interviews become more focused and productive.
  • Hiring decisions are supported by greater context and clearer evaluation.
